The 4th Congressional District Democratic Committee today, and we made sure to have one of our members present as representation.
The meeting started with a roll call and updates from the local county democratic committees. Most counties are starting to work on helping in the local elections as well as gearing up for events throughout the year. Our neighboring counties offered to help send volunteers if there is an event that we need more volunteers. The goal of the executive committee is to increase local participation at events throughout the district.
Please let us know if you have any event in Cooper County that is not currently on our calendar. We will make sure that it is added.
The next topic of discussion centered around making sure that we have a strong strategy in place for messaging. The solution that we have in effect for now is to have our local constituency write up blog posts/press releases for what is happening in their area. Then we can share these items with the group at large as well as appropriate news organizations.
This is beneficial for three distinct reasons:
- We have engaging content that people want to read. People WANT to know about what is happening in their immediate area.
- Then we as a people can use this information to convey our wants/needs to our elected representatives.
- We can find people that are passionate about issues and recruit them into becoming future candidates.
The final topic of discussion was the Democrat booth at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. The committee discussed the cost to run the booth and how the 4th district bore the whole cost for the statewide fair. It was resolved that the committed will ask the MDP executive committee, as well as every individual county committee to contribute to the State Fair booth. Our hope is that we will be able to reach more people and build longer lasting relationships with people if the booth is better funded. This would be accomplished with better literature, professional signage, and attention grabbing giveaways.
Action items for everyone from the 4th CDDC executive committee:
Please let us know about the local events in your area. We want to have a presence at each one.
