CAFO stands for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation.  They have a very large number of animals in a relatively small area. The main concerns are the pollution of the surrounding communities. Check back here for updates or the Opponents of Cooper County CAFOs Facebook page. Here are some upcoming events if you want to be involved! January 8, 5:30pm (Tuesday) Cooper County Health Board Meeting– Community members are always welcome to attend the monthly health board meetings.   Also, remember that there are 2 board members up for re-election in April.  Janet Harris and Susan Felton are running again.   Candidate filing ends January 15th. January 9 , 9:00 am (Wednesday) Clean Water Commission Meeting 1101 Riverside Dr. Jefferson City, MO  Rm??? The CWC will be addressing pending motions and hearing from the attorneys for DNR and OCCC and make a decision to issue or deny the permit for Tipton East, based on the appeal.  This is an important meeting. The CWC needs to see that our community is opposed to this operation being permitted without addressing the water contamination concerns in the immediate area of the planned construction. Please attend if at all possible.  It should last 2 hours or less. Let me know if you need a ride. You will need to arrive by 8:30 to get parked and to the meeting on time.  I don’t know the room number for the meeting. Just ask at the front desk.   January 14, 1:30 pm (Monday) Court Hearing at Cooper County Courthouse, Boonville, Missouri. OCCC case against the Cooper County Commissioners will be before Judge Kauffman again.  The case challenging the Health Regulation #5 enacted by the Cooper County Health Board will also be heard by Judge Kauffman.  Both of these are important issues. January 26, 9:00-3:00 (Saturday) CAFO Summit, United Methodist Church, 204S. 9th, Columbia, MO MRCC has organized this meeting to provide information and support to communities  being invaded by CAFO’s.  Informational meeting and strategies of how to protect our communities will the shared.  Please RSVP to MRCC at 573-449-1336 .  MRCC is planning lunch and sessions so we need an idea of the number of participants.
